Information Governance Strategies

Information Governance is a real-world and deeply edifying kind of book, which eases the effective implementation of Information Governance (IG) procedures as well as strategies.

A critical surface of any mid-to-large-sized company, Information Governance has widely expanded covering not only the management and output of information across the entire organization but emails, social media, electronic records, documents, and much more. Nearly every aspect of the business is covered by the Information Governance umbrella. Growing digitally at a much faster pace, the need for robust internal management and compliance grows accordingly.

The Information Governance Strategy is implemented through detailed policies and procedures for Information Governance and related areas. Information Governance sticks to the best practices for policy development as advised by the concerned.  It is ensured and at least expected that minimum, national standards for Information Governance are adopted and implemented and will follow the key guidance and requirements of the Information Governance Framework.

The IG strategy is a framework that provides a complete approach to all facets of Information Governance. Not limited to it, there also exist practical, business reasons for an Information Governance Strategy. As experienced, effective Information Governance will create efficiencies in several aspects including but not limited to accommodation, IT, and better use of human resources by providing ready access to required information and the storage or in another way, kill the irrelevant information. This will in turn result in better service to service users.

The IG Strategy applies to all recorded information irrespective of content, format, or source.  How we process information from its inception to its disposal is defined under the strategies of Information Governance. Moreover, it also included how it identifies the value of the information and maximizes its exploitation. The enumerated 4 principles drive the strategy of IG:

·         Compliance

·         Consistency

·         Supporting our priorities

·         Value for money

The Information Governance Strategies identifies that it is almost infeasible to hope to find a single solution for Information Governance. Thanks to the diversity of the information held, it does not lend itself or provides the feasibility of a single solution. Instead, the intention remains to provide a consistent standard to be achieved, However, the means to achieve may vary.

Finally, to structure the work plan needed to bring it practicality and address the issues around roles and responsibilities, which are needed to be resolved, ensuring that the information is accessible, available to those that need it is what its strategies help us in. The benefits of IG strategy could be enumerated as:

·         Effective use of physical, electronic, and human resources to increase inefficiency.

·         Shorter response time and better service through improved access to information

·         Environmental benefits: Reduction in the dependence on paper files and physical storage.

·         Killing irrelevant information and documentation creating a better working environment.

·         Reputation improved because of increased compliance.

Having said this, the strategy does not seek to come up with any new invention. However, the goal is to stick to the best practice learn and build the best corporate framework for information management.
